About Zone Directors

Role of a Zone Director

Zone Directors sit on the Board of Directors and are the primary link between the CBF and the members and units in their Zone. They help shape CBF strategy, represent their Zone’s interests, and ensure that national programs and events serve Canadian players.

  • Participate in setting CBF policies, programs and services for members.
  • Ensure views from their Zone are heard and considered in Board discussions.
  • Keep members and units in their Zone informed about Board decisions and the reasons behind them.
  • Help establish and review the organization’s annual budget.
  • Promote the CBF and participation in CBF events within their Zone.
  • Oversee any Canadian Bridge Championships or CBF International Fund Regionals hosted in their Zone.
  • Serve as a trustee of the CBF Charitable Foundation and allocate Discretionary Charity Funds within their Zone.
  • Attend the annual in-person Board meeting and all online meetings held during the year.
  • Serve on CBF committees as required.

Election of Zone Directors

Zone Directors are elected for a term of three calendar years. Elections are held in the final year of the current Director’s term.

  • Nominations must be received by the CBF Election Officer no later than September 30 of the election year.
  • Units in the Zone vote for the nominees. Each Unit receives votes equal to 1% of its membership as of May 1 of the election year.
  • Completed ballots must be returned to the CBF Election Officer no later than December 5 of the election year, or an earlier date if specified by the Election Officer.
  • The elected Zone Director assumes their duties on January 1 of the following year.
